RIYADH: The second phase of an agreement to carry out activities to strengthen national capabilities in the prevention and punishment of human trafficking was signed on Monday by the Saudi Human Rights Commission and the UN Office on Drugs and Crime.
By achieving the goals of the Committee for Combating Trafficking in Persons' National Action Plan, the agreement contributes to the achievement of a lasting impact.
Human trafficking, according to HRC President Hala Al-Tuwaijri, is one of the most heinous crimes that violates human rights and strips people of their dignity and freedom.
She emphasized that the Kingdom has worked to establish a legal and institutional framework that guarantees the protection of all individuals from these crimes without discrimination and assists the victims through the regulations and international agreements it has enacted and joined.
Al-Tuwaijri added that the Kingdom's ongoing efforts to follow up on projects and initiatives related to combating and preventing these crimes and developing national capabilities to counter them are reflected in the renewal of the agreement.
Judge Hatem Ali, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime's regional representative, expressed appreciation for the partnership and emphasized that the agreement aims to build on the existing collaboration in the fight against and prevention of these crimes on a national, regional, and international scale.
